About Modern Human

Luke Sommer (AKA Modern Human) got bitten by the filmmaking bug, at the early age of 9, animating his toys.  Then, he sold a pig in 4H in order to buy a digital editing system, won the Santa Barbara and Burbank film festivals at 15, and went to film school.  His love for the art of film was and still is unquenchable.

Nowadays, Sommer directs comedic shorts for his website modernhumandesign.com.  He also is involved with commercials and web content for companies such as, Target, Martha Stewart, Juicy Couture, Umami Burger, and Williams-Sonoma.  He co-wrote a comedic feature with his sister, that’s in the preproduction phase, with Sommer attached to direct.

In addition to film, Sommer is also a musician and loves writing, recording and producing music.  His new album, Broken Simulations, weaves a story of technology, identity, and dreams into a multi-genre pop epic.  It has received rave reviews from music blogs in Australia, the UK, and major cities in the US:

Modern Human, a one-man powerhouse, hasn’t gotten much attention yet, but offers sophisticated, quality music as if a veteran in the industry.” – Hand Clap Movement

“Simply put, we were blown away by… Broken Simulations.” – The Maroon Café
